International Groups increase the number of volunteers of The Clean Up The World 2007 Campaign
At the 15th September, Saturday, 5.612 volunteers colected 17.500 kgs of trash. The global action, organised in Brasil by the On The Beach Program with Cleaning On The Beach Project - IEA, counted in special, with the Staff of Companies that, motivated by its employees, got together and made the difference in lots of places and cities in Brazil.
At Rio de Janeiro, the Company Forever Living Brazil, was present at the Barra da Tijuca beach; IBM was present with its employees at the Copacabana and Botafogo beaches; the RJRefrescos / Coca-Cola was at Barra da Tijuca and Arpoador (Ipanema) beaches; The Rotary Club International and the Intercontinental Hotel were present at the São Conrado beach; and a big group of the Staff of the Marriott Brazil were present at the Copacabana beach (it is good to detail that this action in Brazil at this year motivated a Marriott Group in Japan to do the Campaign!!).
At this year, we had a very special guest, who came from the Hawaii to visit us, Amanda Gravitte, and be part of this wonderful group. Amanda intends to start the Campaign in Maui soon!! So special!!
New groups got together at the Campaign at this year, in new localities, as: Ilha Grande - RJ; Ilha do Governador -RJ; Saquarema - RJ; and also, Sepetiba, where the fight for a cleaner and healthy beach keeps going and growing... At the Botafogo beach, the meeting point was at the Posto Manequinho, where more than 200 children participated for this noble Action. It is good to remember that Botafogo used to be one of the most beautiful beaches in Rio de Janeiro; but now, it is a part of the Guanabara Bay, and is completely poluted. So, we keep going on this mission.. to make it alive again!!
All the media covered this Event, and transmited to all Brazil, "alive", the images of the Action, the moment of the volunteers getting the trash, and the new volunteers gathering the Campaing in all parts of Brazil!!
Below comes all the Final Relatory of the Clean Up The World 2007 Event / World Clean Up Day, by localities:
- Rio de Janeiro - RJ (beaches of Botafogo, Urca, Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon, São Conrado, Barra da Tijuca, Prainha, Sepetiba, Itacoatiara, Lagoa de Marapendi): Total: 1.450 Volunteers and 6.600 kgs of trash collected;
Cabo Frio - RJ (beaches of Forte; do Foguete; Praia Brava; das Conchas; Praia do Peró; Praia de Unamar; Praia do Siqueira; Ilha do Japonês; Boca da Barra (it had also some divers cleaning the deep of the sea):
Total Volunteers: 400
Estimated Qantity of trash colletced: 2 Tons
- Saquarema - RJ (beaches of Saquarema): Total of 30 Volunteers and 500 kgs of trash collected; Salvador - BA (beaches of Salvador): Total of 2.253 Volunteers and 3.420 kgs pf trash collected;
- Ilha do Governador / RJ: 37 volunteers - 600 kgs of trash;
- Ilha Grande / RJ: 66 volunteers - 800 kgs of trash;
- Brasília - DF (Paranoá Lake): Total 68 Bandeirantes (Scouters), 187 volunteers and 28 divers. 1.900 kgs of trash collected - 85% of this trash was recycled;
- About 50 divers participated at the following regions: Brasília - DF; Cabo Frio - RJ and Rio de Janeiro - RJ, collecting about 200 kgs of trash below sea;
pst: As always, people who works at the beaches gathered the Event, bringing their families and friends, collecting about 3 tons of trash, and walked at the beach educating the people.
GENERAL TOTAL: 5.612 Volunteers; and 19 estimated tons of trash collected.
In all these localities, the most itens found were: cigarretes / cigars. (as always!!).
Also, it is good to remember that, at this year, we utilized Recycled Papers at the Cartoons, Banners and Folders of this Campaign!!
