Clean Up The World 2006 Campaign - Results


The Global Campaign Clean Up The World 2006 / World Clean Up Day Brazil, that happened at the 16th September 2006, Saturday, gained more records, even at the number of Volunteers, than at the number of supporters and partners, and localities that participated in Brazil.

The big sucess of this noble Action, organized by the Limpeza Na Praia Project – Instituto Ecológico Aqualung (IEA) and Programa Na Praia – On The Beach Program, obtained “alive” coverage of the Programa Ressoar, Rede Record – our national media partner – for all Brazil, at the 16th September, from 10:00 AM to 10:40 AM. Images of the Camapign were on air directly from the Arpoador Beach / Ipanema (RJ); Paranoá Lake / Brasília (DF) and Salvador Beaches (BA), with lots of interviews of local coordinators, volunteers and supporters / partners.

Below comes the results and general informations of the CUW 2006 Event:

- Rio de Janeiro - RJ (Beaches of Botafogo, Vermelha, Urca, Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon, São Conrado, Barra da Tijuca, Prainha, Sepetiba, Itacoatiara, Mangaratiba; Ilha de Itacuruçá; Rodrigo de Freitas and of Marapendi Lagoon; and Macacos´s River – Jardim Botânico District): A total of 485 Volunteers and 8.540 quilos of trash collected;
- Cabo Frio - RJ (Beaches of Forte; do Foguete; of Conchas; of Peró; Brava; of Siqueira; of Unamar; the Japonês Island): a total of 400 Volunteers and 3.000 quilos of trash collected;
- Búzios – RJ (Beaches of Geribá and João Fernandes): Total of 300 Volunteers and 1.000 quilos of trash collected;
Petrópolis – RJ (Araras): Total of 200 Volunteers and 3.000 quilos of trash collected;
- Saquarema – RJ (Beaches of Saquarema): Total of 110 Volunteers and 2.000 quilos of trash collected;
- Salvador - BA (Beaches of Salvador): Total of 800 Volunteers and 1.800 quilos of trash collected;
- Barra Grande – BA: Total of 49 Volunteers and 400 quilos of trash collected;
- Brasília - DF (Paranoá Lake): Total of 200 Volunteers and 2.000 quilos of trash collected;
- Vitória – ES (Camburi Beach): Total of 20 Volunteers and 200 quilos of trash collected;
- Recife – PE (Local Beaches): Total of 80 Volunteers and 4.000 quilos of trash collected.

TOTAL: 2.644 Volunteers; and 25.940 quilos of trash collected.

Localities as: Saquarema, Rio das Ostras (RJ); Barra Grande (BA); and Guarujá (SP) have also joined the Global Campaign, and had also conffirmed their participation in other Actions of Projeto Limpeza Na Praia (Cleaning on The Beach Project) – IEA.

At the Paranoá Lake (DF) we had the participation of 50 divers; and at the Vermelha Beach (RJ), we had the participation of 20 divers.

The micron-trash that were found in its majority, were, in all localities: Pieces of cigarettes and straws. A DVD of the Campaign is been produced by the Supervídeo Productions and bt the Programa de TV Na Praia – On The Beach Program.

Nowadays we are concentrating our efforts to our next Campaign, that is the Eco Natal 2006 – Eco Cristmas 2006 / Give a Present to the Nature – Summer with the Beaches, Rivers, and Lagoons Cleaned 2007, that will happen at the 16th December 2006, Saturday. We are also counting with your participation at this next Event!

This is an iniciative of the Limpeza Na Praia Project / Instituto Ecológico Aqualung (IEA).

The General Result of the CUW 2006 Campaign will be published at the Instituto Ecológico Aqualung Informative, at the 25th October, for more than 10.000 associates in all Brazil.
