Cleaning Samba 2006

One more group of volunteers will be at the beaches of Rio de Janeiro city collecting the micron trash dispersed at the border of the beaches, by the samba groups and bathing attendants, at the 18th February 2006, Saturday, from 10 AM to 2 PM.

The Cleaning Samba 2006 comes with its row based in biodegradable plastic bags, collecting rests of cigarettes (being considered the first one enemy of the beaches around the world, according to The ONU – UNEP surveys), instead of de bottle´s lids, cu-tips, straws, toothpicks, preservatives, and others, at the sand of the beaches.

People of this group will be also distributing folders - that explain how this micron trash is actually destroying the sea life and, also, contaminating our sand, and damaging our quality of life.

The theme, in 2006, is the champion of the champions: “Keep your beach cleaned!”. Companies, NGOs, employees, students, teachers, biologists, bathing attendants, people who work on the beach, athletes, and a lot of children will be together at this big cleaning movement, at the Environment education and conscience cause.

Therefore, we are inviting everybody to join us, and so, you can give your contribution to keep the beaches cleaned at this Carnival.

This Event is one realization of the Cleaning on the Beach Project – Instituto Ecológico Aqualung (IEA), and has the support The RJRefrescos / Coca-Cola; Marina Hotels; Ortobom; ANTILHAS; RES; Lojas Americanas; Mundo Verde; NGO Clean Up The World; ABIH-RJ and the Environment Department of The City Hall-RJ.
